Russia urges Israeli restraint, backs Iran’s self-defence; satellite shows damage to Iran’s Kermanshah missile site

After a weekend of massive strikes and counter-strikes between Tel Aviv and Tehran, the UN's human rights chief, Volker Türk on Monday condemned the violence and echoed wider calls for a negotiated end to the attacks.

Iran’s state-run news agency reported Monday that state-run television abruptly stopped a live broadcast after an Israeli strike. During the broadcast, an Iranian state television reporter said the studio was filling with dust after “the sound of aggression against the homeland.

Residents awoke to mostly quiet streets in Tel Aviv after spending the night running back and forth to bomb shelters after Iran’s attacks on the coastal city. Some restaurants and cafes were closed, although those that remained open were full of people drinking coffee and eating pastries as normal.

Iranian state media report more explosions, with blasts heard in Tehran, as Israel says its air force is hitting military targets.
