The Trump administration has hired three prominent researchers who over the course of their careers have questioned and even rejected the scientific consensus on human-caused climate change. Each were given positions in the Energy Department, which is led by Secretary Chris Wright, a former oil and gas fracking executive.
The U.S. Department of Justice argues the Missoula complaint is asking for a solution that is beyond the courts to provide.
Packing up and relocating to France, or any other country, will be an adjustment. But it is clear that an era of U.S. brain drain is beginning, as researchers and scientists seek opportunities in places where academic freedom and research are still valued.
“Much of the new guidance is remarkably UNremarkable,” wrote Gretchen Goldman, president of the Union of Concerned Scientists, in a June 26 blog post. It “restates many of the goals that the scientific community has for increasing the rigor, accessibility, and transparency of science produced and used in federal contexts.
