Economists are defending Bureau of Labor Statistics commissioner Erika McEntarfer, who was fired by President Donald Trump on Friday over the July jobs report.

Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who as Labor Secretary oversees the BLS, wrote on social media that she supports Trump’s decision to fire McEntarfer. “A recent string of major revisions have come to light and raised concerns about decisions being made by the Biden-appointed Labor Commissioner,” Chavez-DeRemer wrote.

Bill Beach said the president's suggestions that the jobs report was rigged betrayed a misunderstanding in how those numbers are assembled.
