The holiday season has officially arrived at the State Capitol with the lighting of the Christmas tree. The 24-foot Douglas fir now shines bright in the Rotunda as the tallest Christmas tree the Capitol has had for a decade.

The tree – a 24-foot Douglas Fir from Crystal Spring Tree Farm in Carbon County – was brought into the capitol two weeks ago. Crews from the Pennsylvania Department of General Services decorated the conifer with 1,250 lights and over 700 ornaments made by pre-kindergarten students.

The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, adorned in 5,000 LED lights and 10,000 hand-made ornaments, lit up the skies in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night during a ceremony to ring-in the 2024 holiday season.
