July 22 (UPI) -- The Kansas City Royals plan to promote Rich Hill from Triple-A, which will make the 45-year-old pitcher the oldest active player in MLB. Royals manager Matt Quatraro confirmed the move Monday night. Hill will start against the Chicago Cubs -- the team that drafted him in 2002 -- on Tuesday in Chicago.
Its Tuesday, July 22 and the Royals (49-52) are in Chicago to take on the Cubs (59-41). Rich Hill is slated to take the mound for Kansas City against Matthew Boyd. Salvador Perez went yard twice last night as the Royals blitzed the Cubs in Game 1 of the series last night,
Boyd had a stellar 1.78 ERA in June, and he’s carried that brilliance into July, posting a 0.90 ERA across three starts. The hurler had cashed the Under in earned runs allowed in all of those appearances, and he even threw eight shutout innings against the New York Yankees in his last start before the All-Star Game festivities.
Here’s a look at all the stops left-hander Rich Hill made before joining the Royals and why he’s starting against the Cubs on Tuesday.
