5.5 earthquake in Nevada rumbles across Northern California
SACRAMENTO — A 5.7 magnitude earthquake occurred in Nevada just east of Lake Tahoe late Monday afternoon, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The epicenter of the quake was in the Lyon County town of Yerington, just east of Tahoe and Carson City. The shaking was felt as far west as Sacramento, California and down to Modesto.

The temblor struck at 3:08 p.m. 15 miles northeast of Yerington, a small town in Lyon County, according to the USGS. The incident was followed by at least 10 earthquakes with magnitudes ranging from 2.5 to 3.3, according to the federal agency.
