Tigrett later partnered with Dan Aykroyd and started House of Blues, a chain of live music concert halls and restaurants in the United States, in 1992 before leaving the company in 1998.

The Tigrett Award, first given in 2006, was established to honor Jackson native John Burton Tigrett. Tigrett was well known for his world-renowned entrepreneurship and philanthropy.
