ACLU trans attorney Chase Strangio defended trans surgeries for minors in an interview with CNN host Jake Tapper on Tuesday. Strangio will be defending transgender surgeries in the state of Tennessee in front of the Supreme Court.

The first openly transgender lawyer to argue before the Supreme Court will say that minors should be prescribed hormone therapy and puberty blockers. Chase Strangio will take to the floor tomorrow to represent families who say Tennessee’s ban on treatment for trans children is unconstitutional.

For Chase Strangio, the professional path that’s led to this moment – in which he’ll have 15 minutes to present an argument defending gender-affirming care for trans youth before the Supreme Court – cannot be unwoven from his life outside the courtroom.

At issue is a Tennessee law that bans access to hormones, puberty blockers, and other treatments for trans kids in the state.
