Federal Reserve governor Adriana Kugler is stepping down from the central bank's board, giving President Donald Trump the chance to appoint an early replacement amid his monthslong campaign to badger Fed officials into lowering interest rates.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Friday called for the Federal Reserve’s board of governors to usurp the power of Fed Chair Jerome Powell, criticizing the head of the U.S. central bank for not cutting short-term interest rates.

The resignation comes as President Trump has openly pressured the central bank to lower interest rates and called for Jerome H. Powell, the chair, to step down.
