A winter storm system is expected to intensify Saturday morning, bringing steady snow showers and creating potentially hazardous travel conditions across Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan.
On Saturday at 2:13 p.m. EST the National Weather Service issued an updated winter storm warning valid from 7 p.m. EST until Sunday 1 p.m. EST for Presque Isle and Alpena counties.
At 1:25 a.m. on Sunday, the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory valid from 6 p.m. until Monday 7 a.m. for Southern Erie.
Precipitation may begin as a mix of wet snow and rain across inland areas Sunday morning before transitioning to all rain by afternoon as temperatures rise. The Jersey Shore should see high temperatures in the low to mid 50s, while inland locations remain in the 40s.
Photographs from state traffic cameras show widespread wreckage, with many vehicles scattered across and off the highway.
The city said that although the Electric Christmas Parade is a much-anticipated event every year, they had to make the tough decision to cancel for safety reasons.
A winter storm could bring 8 to 12 inches of snow to southern Wisconsin. For those without shelter, there are six warming centers across the city.
