Norris crashed himself out of the race when he inexplicably tried to pass McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri for fourth place with less than five laps left. Norris got past Piastri in the hairpin, but Piastri was able to get back alongside on the corner exit and won the drag race down the main straightaway until the final chicane.

Piastri was sitting in fourth place with Norris right behind him, but disaster struck for McLaren when the British driver tried to shoot through a gap that wasn't there. Norris clipped his teammate and then collided with the wall, ending his race as a safety car was deployed.
