After losing Chauncey Golston to the New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys invested in another depth pass-rusher. During the second day of the free agency negotiating window, the Cowboys agreed to a deal with former New Orleans Saints first-round pick Payton Turner.

Mathieu returned home to New Orleans during the 2022 offseason. In the last three campaigns with his hometown Saints, he has intercepted 10 passes, broke up 24 others, forced or recovered five fumbles, and has 4 tackles for loss among 228 total stops.

The seven-year NFL veteran safety joins New Orleans after three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs. There, he'll play alongside safety and fellow Louisiana native Tyrann Mathieu, who reportedly restructured his contract with the Saints on Tuesday to ensure that he remains with the team in 2025.

The Saints were able to lure standout safety Justin Reid away from the Chiefs and other suitors with something no other team can offer.
