Norway's Equinor alongside partners BP and TotalEnergies , have taken the final investment decision for two of the Britain's first carbon capture and storage projects in northern England, they said on Tuesday.

Facilities to capture and store carbon emissions from energy, industry and hydrogen production will support 2,000 jobs in the north-east of England, the government has said. In October, it pledged £22bn funding for "carbon capture clusters" on Teesside and Merseyside over the next 25 years,
