A winter storm system is expected to intensify Saturday morning, bringing steady snow showers and creating potentially hazardous travel conditions across Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan.
Winter storm warnings and advisories extended from Montana to Ohio, the National Weather Service said. Forecasters warned that there could be airport delays and slowed traffic with snow falling at more than an inch per hour in some areas.
Precipitation may begin as a mix of wet snow and rain across inland areas Sunday morning before transitioning to all rain by afternoon as temperatures rise. The Jersey Shore should see high temperatures in the low to mid 50s, while inland locations remain in the 40s.
A winter weather advisory was released by the National Weather Service on Saturday at 1:25 p.m. valid for Sunday between 3 a.m. and noon for Westmoreland Ridges and Fayette Ridges.
Next Weather meteorologist Lisa Meadows said a winter storm that moved into southwestern Minnesota on Friday night will impact central parts of the state, including the Twin Cities on Saturday.
