The rodeo's barbecue cook-off is already underway, the parade is on Saturday and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo kicks off next week at NRG Park.

As the Houston Health Department investigated two possible measles cases Friday afternoon, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo urged unvaccinated attendees to consider the risks of attending any large event.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sunnyside Health Center, located at 4410 Reed Road. HOUSTON — The Houston Health Department is hosting a measles vaccination clinic Saturday morning.

According to a news release, the Houston Health Department is taking proactive steps to protect the community from measles by hosting a free vaccination clinic for TVFC (Texas Vaccines for Children) and ASN eligible clients on Saturday,

Experts recommend that anyone not vaccinated against the measles should avoid large events like the Houston Rodeo amid an outbreak in northwest Texas.

As of Tuesday, there were 159 cases in West Texas. Houston and Harris County leaders are getting ready in case the outbreak makes it to Southeast Texas.

Physicians respond with masks, telehealth, parking lot clinics, and pleas to parents to vaccinate their children.

Local leaders announced at a public measles briefing Tuesday afternoon that there are no active measles cases in Houston or Harris County.

Since Tuesday is the first official day of the carnival and shows, HoustonRodeo officials are alerting goers to be vigilant about their health.
