A South Carolina lottery player couldn’t care less about football but tried her luck on a Clemson scratch-off ticket anyway. As chance would have it, she scored big. “It was a joyful moment,” the Pee Dee woman told the South Carolina Education Lottery of winning $200,000.

The Gamecocks, who began the 2024 season unranked, finished 19th in the AP poll. It’s the first time since 2022 that USC is ranked in an end-of-season poll. Clemson finished ranked No. 14 in the AP poll. The final USA Today coaches poll hasn’t been released yet.

Deputies said a man is facing charges after he allegedly attacked a woman outside her home and stalked her at her job.

UPDATE: Just after 2 p.m. on Jan. 27, South Carolina officials released the identity of the 20-year-old man who died after being stuck under a tree. The man, Ethan Alexander Ackerman, was a college student at Clemson University, the Anderson County coroner’s office wrote in a news release and an email to McClatchy News.

The University of South Carolina is rewarding Shane Beamer after the Gamecocks’ recent success. On Friday, the South Carolina Board of Trustees approved a contract extension for the Gamecocks’ head football coach that will run through the end 2030 and pay him $8.15 million in 2025 with $100,000 raises in each season that follows.

A 13-year-old student in South Carolina has been charged after making threats toward a school. The Sumter County Sheriff's Office said about 7 p.m. Saturday the student was taken into custody by deputies and an agent with the FBI. They said the student is accused of making threats to a local school through social media.

Super Bowl 59 will feature plenty of players who played at Clemson football and South Carolina. The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 9 in New Orleans at Caesars Superdome.

According to the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, nearly 25,000 farms and 4.8 million acres of farmland in the state are driven by agriculture.

The state of South Carolina will be well represented at Super Bowl 59, including athletes from Clemson football and South Carolina.
