As Alex Ovechkin chases down Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goals record, the Edmonton Oilers made quite a gesture toward the Washington Capitals captain.

At Rogers Place on Monday, Ovechkin had the opportunity to see some of Gretzky’s game-worn gear on display in the Oilers Hall of Fame Room. Ovechkin picked up Gretzky’s gloves, stick and one of his jerseys.

With his overtime goal on Thursday, Alex Ovechkin has now scored against 179 different goalies in his NHL career — more than any other player.

Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals are currently in Edmonton to take on the Oilers tomorrow night, and Ovechkin arrived to Rogers Place a little early to pay tribute to Wayne Gretzky.
