In a pivotal first-round matchup at the Big Sky Basketball tournament, Weber State took control in the final minutes to defeat Sacramento State 83-70 on Saturday night.
None of Idaho’s points were more impactful than the four Mitchell scored 25 seconds into overtime when he was fouled by Weber State’s Trevor Hennig while sinking a 3-pointer. Mitchell also collected the free throw to give the Vandals a quick 76-72 lead in the extra period.
Weber State men’s basketball hit one of the lowest points perhaps in program history two weeks ago in an 80-77 home loss to last-place Sacramento State. That was Sac State’s only win in the final 12 games of the regular season.
BOTTOM LINE: Blaise Threatt and Weber State take on Jack Payne and Idaho in Big Sky action. The Vandals are 7-6 in home games. Idaho has a 2-2 record in games decided by less than 4 points.
