All of the children admitted with measles to Covenant Children's Hospital in Lubbock were unvaccinated, officials said last week. Dr. Lara Johnson, the hospital's chief medical officer, said Covenant has seen more than 20 patients since the outbreak began in late January.
U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said last week he would send Texas 2,000 doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine through its immunization program. Kennedy founded the anti-vaccine group Children’s Health Defense, but has said he would not prevent Americans from getting vaccinated.
Texas health officials say the number of people with measles has increased to 146 in rural West Texas outbreak that led this week to the death of a school-aged child who was not vaccinated.
