OpenAI, SoftBank, Oracle, and President Trump unveil a $500 billion dubbed Stargate project to build massive data centers for AI advances in the United States.
A plan to build a system of data centers for artificial intelligence has been revealed in a White House press conference, with Masayoshi Son, Sam Altman, and Larry Ellison joining Donald Trump to announce The Stargate Project.
Microsoft is OpenAI's largest investor, with a 49% stake, translating to $14 billion. As part of its complicated partnership with the ChatGPT maker, Microsoft was once the exclusive cloud computing partner for OpenAI. However, OpenAI's $500 billion investment in computing infrastructure changes its relationship with Microsoft.
OpenAI has announced that it's teaming up with Softbank and Oracle on $100 billion data center project in the U.S.
The project, which will be financially led by SoftBank and operationally by OpenAI, will see an immediate investment of $100 billion. Masayoshi Son will be the chairman of the company.
Microsoft and OpenAI are loosening the tight bond that connects them. In future, OpenAI will be able to obtain cloud capacities for its AI from elsewhere.
President Donald Trump announced a joint venture Tuesday with OpenAI, Oracle and SoftBank to invest billions of dollars in AI infrastructure in the United States.
Stargate "will be the most important project of this era,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Tuesday alongside Trump.
Microsoft confirms its partnership with OpenAI remains intact despite OpenAI's new venture with Oracle and SoftBank, led by SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son
A key focus of the Stargate project is to facilitate the development of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), a level of AI with human-like cognitive abilities
The investment brings together an alliance of tech giants. While SoftBank and OpenAI are lead partners—with SoftBank handling financials and OpenAI managing operations—Oracle and MGX have also joined as equity funders.
