As the federal government shutdown continues, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits officially ran out Saturday, leaving millions of Americans struggling to afford food.
During an Oct. 20 news conference, Gov. Andy Beshear said the U.S. Department of Agriculture has not authorized SNAP funding for November, and the Trump Administration said the federal government will not pay out benefits for the upcoming month.
After SNAP funding stalled on Nov. 1, Second Harvest of the Big Bend organized an emergency distribution, serving more than 1,500 families in a single day.
