MINNEAPOLIS (Reuters) -A massive manhunt entered a second day on Sunday in Minnesota for the gunman who killed a Democratic state lawmaker while posing as a police officer, a crime that Governor Tim Walz characterized as a "politically motivated assassination."

The mother of a man shot and wounded during a confrontation with Pawtucket police says police have blocked her from seeing her son.

Police have been searching for Vance Luther Boelter, the suspect in the shooting of two Democratic state politicians from Minnesota.

One person was taken into custody after an hours-long standoff Sunday morning that was connected to a fatal shooting earlier in north Wichita, police said. Police officers heard and responded to gunshots at 9:32 p.m. Saturday in the area of 22nd and Hillside streets near Wichita State University and Wichita police Patrol North substation.

Salt Lake City police said​ in a post to social media that the shooting was "possibly associated" with a "No Kings" demonstration.

The Millsboro-area shooting was the second Kent County one that morning in which there were multiple victims and one killed.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two men are dead after a shooting early Sunday morning near E. 69th St. and College Ave. in Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas City Police say patrol officers were dispatched to the area shortly after midnight on a reported sound of gunshots.

A man was shot and killed at an Old North Hampton convenience store Saturday afternoon after a physical altercation escalated to weapons drawn, police said.
