The ongoing conflict in North Darfur, Sudan, has triggered a severe public health emergency, with cholera spreading rapidly and threatening the lives of over 640,000 children under the age of five.
In recent months, more than half a million people have taken shelter in Tawila, some 60km (37 miles) west of el-Fasher, the state capital, which has been under two months of siege by the RSF rebels.
The lucky ones like Hussein made it to Tawila, despite barely any aid available there. The fighters did not pursue them. Ibrahim Essa, a 43-year-old father of six, didn't think he would make it out.
