Six counties in New Jersey have been placed under a severe thunderstorm watch Tuesday because of the threat of strong storms that could produce large hail, heavy downpours and damaging wind gusts of 60 mph or stronger.

The NWS Raleigh NC issued an updated severe thunderstorm warning at 12:24 p.m. on Monday in effect until 12:45 p.m. The warning is for Chatham, Durham, Granville and Wake counties. The storms could bring quarter-sized hail (1 inch).
