SpaceX pulled off the rocket booster catch maneuver during its eighth test flight but the Starship spacecraft exploded over the Caribbean, according to reports from residents.

The new version of Starship will be tested again in four to six weeks. A third consecutive failure could indicate fundamental problems with the updated design.

Footage of Starship’s explosion, captured from Florida, was shared to X by Trevor Mahlmann. In the 30-second clip, a bright flash is followed by what appears to be an expanding, spiraling cloud in the dusk sky that eventually disperses and fades away.
