An arctic air mass sprawling across the eastern, central and parts of the western U.S. on Monday will channel temperatures 20-30 degrees below already historically cold January averages and was poised to slam parts of the South with a disruptive winter storm.

MID-MICHIGAN (WNEM) - Wind chills in mid-Michigan are dangerously cold for residents and also for our pets. Just because your pet is covered in fur doesn’t mean they can’t get cold weather injuries like we do.

The 7 a.m. wind chill values were in the 30s and 40s below zero throughout Minnesota, including -35 in the Twin Cities. When you zoom out to see more of Minnesota and the entire region, it reveals the expansive area of Siberian air that has been spun south by a stretching polar vortex.
