INDIAN WELLS, California - Novak Djokovic was shocked by Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2 3-6 6-1 in the second round of Indian Wells on Saturday as the Serbian suffered an early exit at the hands of a tournament lucky loser for a second consecutive year.

Novak Djokovic started the 2025 season with some strong performances at the Australian Open – one of his all-time favourite tournaments – where he reached the semi-finals, but a left thigh injury prevented him from continuing his run at Melbourne Park.

Novak Djokovic lost in the second round of the Indian Wells Open to Botic van de Zandschulp in three sets, 6-2, 5-7, 6-1, on Saturday. The 37-year-old Djokovic is a five-time Indian Wells champion, with his last title coming in 2016.
