TORONTO — Easton Cowan’s time in the NHL is done for now. The rookie Maple Leafs winger was sent to the AHL’s Toronto Marlies on Wednesday after 10 games to start the season.

Indeed, when the 35-year-old became the 49th player in NHL history to reach the 500-goal plateau against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Oct. 29, there was very little reason to celebrate. Nor was he about to. Even with his milestone moment, the Maple Leafs were still trailing the Blue Jackets 6-2 in a game Toronto would end up losing 6-3.

If the Leafs were confident that Nansi would take a big step in his development after they drafted him in the fifth round (153rd overall) of of the 2025 National Hockey League draft, the 18-year-old has done everything — and perhaps more — to back that up.
