LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass lifted a curfew in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday that was first imposed in response to clashes with police and vandalism amid protests against President Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown in the city.
Tonight' host criticized the president for sending National Guard troops and Marines into Los Angeles: "Why would you send troops if there is nothing for them to do?"
The president claimed, without giving evidence, that the protesters were “paid” agitators, that the Los Angeles police asked for the National Guard, and that swaths of the city were under gang control.
The Trump administration has paused immigration raids targeting farm and hotel workers, but the president has called for more ICE raids in cities.
