Celtic midfielder Arne Engels said the experience of being hit by a coin during the Old Firm game defeat to Rangers was “not nice” and something he had to get through in a difficult game. The Belgian was struck by a coin thrown from the Rangers support with ten minutes to play in the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on January 2.

The Belgian midfielder went down in the corner at Ibrox late on in Celtic 's 3-0 defeat to their rivals, with boss Brendan Rodgers also targeted in a separate incident. Both clubs have released statements slamming the disgusting scenes and Rodgers said Engels' incident in particular could have resulted in a lost eye.
