Dec. 11 (UPI) -- Capitol Police have arrested an individual who "physically accosted" Rep. Nancy Mace, the congresswoman said. In a statement published to her personal X account, Mace claimed she suffered minor injuries in the alleged Tuesday night assault, stating, "One new brace for my wrist and some ice for my arm, and it'll heal just fine."

Mace said she was “physically accosted” by a man advocating for transgender rights. Witnesses with a group affiliated with the man dispute the allegation, saying the two simply shared a handshake.

The U.S. Capitol Police said they arrested a person suspected of assaulting Republican U.S. Representative Nancy Mace, who recently introduced a bill aimed at blocking the chamber's first openly transgender member from using women's bathrooms.
