Markets were slow to gain traction in either direction early Tuesday, a day after a surging technology sector boosted Wall Street to another record finish. Futures for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 were essentially unchanged before the bell.

Asian shares have mostly risen after technology stocks pulled Wall Street to another record finish. Benchmarks rose in Tuesday trading in Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, Hong Kong and Shanghai. The S&P 500 rose 0.

U.S. stocks are drifting around their records as Wall Street’s white-hot rally lets off the accelerator. The S&P 500 slipped 0.1% in Tuesday morning trading, a day after rising tech stocks helped it set an all-time high for the 54th time this year.

But this week Trump moved closer to home, threatening 25% tariffs on all goods imported from Mexico and Canada and tying the tariffs to demands for better border control by both countries.

U.S. stocks tiptoed to more records amid a mixed Tuesday of trading, tacking a touch more onto what’s already been a stellar year so far. The S&P 500 edged up by 2 points, or less than 0.1%, to set an all-time high for the 55th time this year.
