Two decades after Freaky Friday became a coming-of-age staple, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are finally back on screen together in Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel. The film is now in theaters as of August 8— almost exactly 22 years after the original film’s release.

Freakier Friday, quite successfully, tugs on the same heart strings, follows similar beats and even repeats some of the same songs to serve a predictable, well-loved formula patched together with scrapbook transitions that hark back to the golden age of teen movies.

For me, watching Freakier Friday -- the new sequel to the 2003 body-switch comedy starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis -- led to a change in perspective: I was now a fan of two Freaky Friday movies headlined by Lohan and Curtis.
