A federal judge in Miami will hear arguments on Monday in a case over the controversial immigration detention center in the middle of the Florida Everglades known as "Alligator Alcatraz."

The state plans to spend up to $6 million to stand up Baker Correctional Institution to hold more than 1,300 people awaiting deportation.

The new immigration detention center will be located at the Baker Correctional Institution in Sanderson, Florida. The governor said the facility, which is near Lake City Airport, will not house people indefinitely.
