PORTLAND, Maine — Two people were arrested and charged with assault Saturday after organized protests in Portland, according to the Portland Police Department. The "No Kings" demonstrations took place at Monument Square and Lincoln Park, and police said Congress and Pearl Streets were closed during the Lincoln Park event.
After police declared a riot amid a protest the night before, demonstrators are back outside the Portland ICE building on Sunday and have set up more tents in the area.
Top Portland and Multnomah County leaders, law enforcement officials and several community leaders stood together Friday in advance of large planned protests to decry the immigration policies of the federal administration and affirm the laws in place to protect immigrants.
