Connecticut educators and other public sector workers are celebrating passage of the Social Security Fairness Act. The new federal law repealed two provisions which had reduced Social Security benefits for some public sector workers who also receive a pension and who will now be eligible for benefits they would have earned in 2024.

On January 6, 2025, the Social Security Fairness Act will be signed into law, promising increased benefits for millions of retirees in the United States. This landmark legislation aims to rectify long-standing reductions in Social Security benefits caused by the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO).
