Expected snow totals for all of South Carolina
A winter storm is likely to bring snow to parts of South Carolina that rarely see it. As of right now, it looks like the Upstate area of the state could get some light snowfall starting Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Snow on the SC beaches - A better chance for winter weather south of our area
Models are showing a southward trend in snow chances, mainly because of the strength of the cold air dome over the U.S. That cold, dry and dense air is causing the storm track to move south a bit. Both the Euro and GFS show snow for the SC coast, while we stay mainly dry. The Canadian model does bring more snow our way, but it’s an outlier for now.
Will another winter storm impact South Carolina next week?
There is also a good chance a winter storm will develop around Texas next Monday, then track toward the southeast U.S. If the moisture from this system lines up with sub-freezing temperatures, then we could have a threat for snow or ice in South Carolina next Tuesday or Wednesday.
Expected snow totals for parts of South Carolina for Friday
At some point Friday evening, the snow will start to transition to a mix of snow and sleet/freezing rain across much of the Upstate. While that happens, much of Western North Carolina is NOT expecting any transition. It will likely remain steady snow showers throughout the duration of the storm.
