WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court will hear arguments Wednesday in a fight over plans to store nuclear waste at sites in rural Texas and New Mexico.

"Yucca Mountain was supposed to be the permanent solution," said Justice Neil Gorsuch during the Supreme Court hearing Wednesday.

But over the past 50 years, some places have occasionally run afoul of the act. In San Francisco, the wastewater system discharges a mix of sewage and stormwater into the bay during major storms, often causing bacteria levels to exceed EPA regulatory standards .

The conservative Supreme Court aligned with liberal San Francisco on Tuesday, ruling that federal environmental regulators overstepped their authority by attempting to impose vague limits on how much raw sewage the California city may pump into the Pacific Ocean.

The Supreme Court seemed likely Tuesday to block a $10 billion lawsuit Mexico filed against top firearm manufacturers in the U.S. alleging the companies have fueled cartel gun violence. Both liberal and conservative justices appeared skeptical that the claims could clear hurdles in U.

The Mexican government's lawsuit against U.S. gun companies is set to go before the U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday.
