A lot of snow, rain and cold weather await travelers for the rest of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, with winter storm warnings posted Friday across the northern part of the country and more snow falling over the Great Lakes region. Storm warnings and advisories extended from Montana to New York, the National Weather Service said.
This Colorado Low system has sparked weather alerts from Montana, through the Plains states, and into the Great Lakes region.
Photographs from state traffic cameras show widespread wreckage, with many vehicles scattered across and off the highway.
A more significant winter storm is expected Tuesday, which could produce widespread snowfall across the state.
Precipitation may begin as a mix of wet snow and rain across inland areas Sunday morning before transitioning to all rain by afternoon as temperatures rise. The Jersey Shore should see high temperatures in the low to mid 50s, while inland locations remain in the 40s.
The Illinois High School Association football state championships scheduled for Saturday have been postponed, as Illinois State University is closing its campus due to heavy snow in the forecast.
A winter storm warning remains in effect for all of southern Wisconsin until 6 a.m. Nov. 30. The storm could bring snowfall totals anywhere from eight to 12 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Totals of 14 inches and above are also possible near the Kettle Moraine area and south of Interstate 94/U.S. 18.
