An alleged letter from Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to Vance Luther Boelter surfaced online after Boelter was named by journalists and the New York Post as the suspect in Saturday’s shootings of former lawmakers John Hoffman,
Democratic State House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark Hortman, were shot and killed on Saturday, allegedly by a man appointed by Walz.
Boelter claimed to have a doctorate of education, and said he spent extensive time in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa — where he was seen in videos apparently preaching on stage.

Boelter had also been a member of the Governor's Workforce Development Council in 2016 during the administration of then-Governor Mark Dayton.
Authorities identified the man suspected of shooting two Minnesota state lawmakers Saturday as Vance Boelter, 57, of Green Isle.
