In this brief report, we summarize the results of this work which provide a clearer picture of the spatial pattern relating to a large mantle He anomaly hosted in cold groundwaters and the relationship to the outflow plume originating from the Roosevelt Hot Springs.

In 2018, the US Department of Energy selected a location near Milford, Utah as the site for its Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE). The project will provide a controlled environment where technologies for characterizing, creating and sustaining EGS reservoirs can be developed and tested.

An improved geoscientific model has been developed for the FORGE Utah site from synthesis of numerous independent datasets, including new geological, geophysical, and geochemical surveys, plus drilling and logging of the new deep vertical well 58-32 to 7536 ft (2248 m) depth.

It builds on understanding of the thermal structure and heat flow (Allis et al., 2019), the helium isotope patterns occurring in cold ground waters (Simmons and Kirby, 2023), and the magnetotelluric (MT) resistivity model (Wannamaker et al., 2021).

In 2018, updated information on the production fluid chemistry through 2016 was reported in order to document the reservoir response to production (Simmons et al., 2018). These data are reviewed below, especially the chloride-enthalpy trends, which evolved over time in response to more than 30 years of sustained geothermal energy production.

EGS type resources occur locally in southern Utah (Allis et al., 2016; Simmons et al., 2016) and at Raft River (Bradford et al. 2016). In this paper, we emphasize that different types of geothermal resources (fault-related, hot sedimentary aquifer, and EGS) occur in the eastern Great Basin, sometimes in close proximity to one another.
