This is one of my favorite number lessons to do in preschool. We learned the number six, then read One Fox. It’s my favorite number book. We talked about the word famished, and the kids noticed the fox was devious — a wow word we’d already learned earlier in the year. After the book, I tell them we’re going to throw “snowballs.” I have crumpled paper snowballs in a bin, each one showing a dice pattern for numbers one through six. I call up about a third of the class at a time to throw their snow
