Prehistoric gentle giant. Goliath grouper, which can grow to more 8 feet in length and 800 pounds, are rarely seen on a dive these days. They are a critically endangered species due to rampant overfishing in the past. Fortunately, the populations of these massive groupers are on an upswing due to educational programs, fishing regulations and their inclusion in protected marine areas.
